Dell Alienware Aurora Desktop Review
After reading several blogs and forums it seems the general consensus was that this was a significantly overpriced system. But after comparing other systems and pricing out parts to build my own I found that not really to be the case, unless there's a really cheap source of components that I'm not aware of (I used Newegg). Still, I don't believe you could build an equivilent system in this nice of a package and save a whole lot.
I have been very impressed with this computer since getting it a few months ago. I've had no problems at all and the graphics and performance are outstanding (I got it with i7 930/2.80GHz and single ATI 5870). I haven't had a single hiccup. It's very well put together and the case is pretty cool; there are 4 different external zones that you can have lit in different colors.
I was a somewhat alarmed at first at how seriously loud the fans/liquid cooler were. But after I figured out the thermal management system and cranked them down about 10% it was no louder than any other computer and still runs about the same temp (27-28C), at least during normal, non-game activity (I've never checked the temp during game play). The packaging was outstanding, the best I've seen on pretty much any product I've purchased. I believe it would have taken a serious effort to damage it in shipping.
Though I didn't read it, the manual is certainly the nicest looking one I've ever seen and includes pages to hold all the included system disks, another nice feature after having to rely on a recovery partition or make my own recovery disks on the last few computers I've had. I can't comment on the customer service since I haven't had to call as yet. So far this has been the best computer I've ever bought.
